Golf Tournaments

golf courseIt’s hard to ignore the professional golf circuit, particularly when countries and regions come to a stop whenever a tour, championship or even masters comes to town. These days there is a great deal of money to be made from sponsorships and endorsement deals and this can often outweigh even the prize money awarded to winning golfers who participate in the tournaments themselves. Often it is just as important to be shown on TV as it is to be hitting under par.

There are a number of very well known and highly regarded events on the professional circuit. The PGA Tour is one of the most famous, and usually has a highly competitive rank of golfers in attendance. It also receives one of the most comprehensive levels of television coverage. The European Tour is also incredibly popular, though not in the US. The Masters Tournament is another prestigious competition (referred to outside of North America as the US Masters), matched only by the British Open (sometimes referred to as The Open Championship). Both have illustrious histories and have been won by some of the most famous golfers the world has ever seen. The Open Championship in particular is a significant event within the UK, as it is held in a different location within the UK’s borders annually. The US Open is another of the major championship tournaments that catches all of the big hitters, and it is soon to be included as an official money event in the Asian (as well as the PGA and European) Tour.
